Our Past
Evidence of human settlement dates back to 3 million BC, highlighting a history of thriving communities since the Palaeolithic era. In ancient times, the UAE's Iron Age civilizations pioneered Falaj irrigation systems, harnessing water from rain and underground sources to cultivate flourishing oases. The region also served as a vibrant hub for international trade, leaving behind a lasting legacy of innovation and resourcefulness. The late Sheikh Zayed built upon that heritage, recognising the importance of water conservation, human development, and trade expansion.
